Winning the Debate

The Queens Chronicle

The prowess of Maspeth High School’s debate team has not been lost on Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley, who visited the squad of stellar squabblers and other area students last week ahead of the two-week camp put on by the Queens Debate Institute, under the heading of the New York City Urban Debate League.

Students in elementary, middle and high school are eligible to take part in the camp.

Crowley allocated $5,000 to the Maspeth High School debate team in last year’s city budget.

“The community is so proud to have a first-class debate team right here at Maspeth High School and I enjoy seeing the team share their talents with other youth in New York City,” Crowley said in a statement. “I’m pleased so many students are developing that skill so early in life.
